Forza Horizon 3. Just before Christmas, I caved and bought an Xbox to play Forza Motorsport 7. Curiosity got the better of me, and, in addition to Forza Motorsport 7, I ended up with a copy of Forza Horizon 3. Cruising around Surfers Paradise in a Pagani Zonda is kind of cool, and a bit of an old haunt for me — sans Pagani Zonda, that is. Playground Games have done a great of job of capturing the essence of Australian towns, countries, forests, and outback. I haven’t managed to knock any koalas out of trees yet, but I’m sure they’re there. I’m looking forward to the expansion pack that features yobbos standing on street corners and shouting “do a burnout, mate!”

Black Mirror. (Warning: possible spoilers ahead.) It looks like they had a lot of fun with USS Callister and it was just as enjoyable to watch. The dark twists are just what you’d expect from the Black Mirror Series, and I’m a fan of this sinister view of technology. Now, I’m not sure how exactly one synthesises an entire human being, complete with memories, from a DNA swab. Perhaps I missed that part of the explanation. However, despite this minor foible, it was a fantastic start to season 4.

On a related note, I tried out a bit of Minecraft VR. The square pigs looked pretty realistic. Not a bad experience, now that they have the motion sickness foibles worked out. It’s all about the controls, apparently. Could do with some de-fogging technology for the headset, though.

Here’s to a foibleulous fabulous new year.
