Laurence has been watching lots of films lately, not least this month’s recommendation The Thing (1982 and 2011). To further this cinematic zeal he has signed up for a Cineworld unlimited card, which means he can waltz into the cinema at a whim and watch as many films as he likes without buying tickets – roll on marathon film Saturdays!
The cost of cinema-going has now become so prohibitive that the card pays for itself if you go at least twice a month, so it seems like a no-brainer, as long as you resist the temptation of the ‘deals’ on rubbery hotdogs and 17-gallon barrels of Coke. Other big- and small-screen highlights this month include The Descendants (affecting and funny, a well-acted and genuine take on the crossroads between adultery and bereavement), The Rock (ridiculous action and Sean Connery swearing on Alcatraz – need I say more) and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (post-apocalyptic mayhem with lots of artificially speeded-up shots to create ‘action’ and Mel Gibson looking suspiciously young).
Laurence recommends The Thing.
